Prestige Turbo Yeast
Turbo yeast is an extremely fast-acting distillers yeast and, when properly used, can quickly produce very high alcohol concentrations of up to 20% in short order. It features a special strain of yeast along with an abundance of minerals, nutrients and vitamins essential for vigorous fermentation – this combination produces exceptionally clean wash products with few unwanted congeners (yeast by-products). Furthermore, turbo yeast was specifically cultured for distillation applications – unlike wine yeast or baker’s yeast – ensuring maximum quality fermentation in as short a timeframe as possible.
Maintaining a liquid temperature below 30degC during fermentation is of utmost importance in order to minimize volatile compound production, speed up the process significantly and avoid unexpected setbacks. Aim for a specific gravity of 1090-1190 for best results.
Yeast is a naturally occurring bacteria which, when mixed with sugar, creates alcohol and carbon dioxide – two by-products which may not be desirable in alcoholic drinks due to off-flavors and bitter aftertastes. Turbo yeast was created specifically to eliminate the volatiles problem by providing it with its own source of carbon dioxide which it uses for fuelling its metabolism – this ensures maximum conversion of sugar into alcohol production by the yeast.
The Black Label Turbo Yeast contains an advanced mix of minerals/nutrients/vitamin supplements than its regular version to speed up fermentation even further. This highly efficient yeast will produce up to 17 % alcohol in 25 liters of mash (sugar + grain) or fruit juice.
